Pushing hands Grandmaster Chen Xiaowang and Chen Bing. Chenstyle Taijiquan. Push Hands (a.k.a. Pushing Hands, Tui Shou, Sensing Hands) is an exercise performed by two people who are attempting to improve their Tai Chi skills. Practicing the Tai Chi solo form teaches one to remain balanced, focused and relaxed while in motion. Taijiquan push hand is an energy drill for leaning about how to gain a postural advantage over your partner while maintaining your own balance. Good skill in martial arts requires you to be relaxed and in front of your opponent. During push hand contact with your opponent is maintained. You learn to move at and appropriate speed and to understand and be sensitive to your partner’s centre of gravity so that later on this can be exploited.
